Vibrant splash of colour in hospital rooms

The size of the construction site is impressive. It will be quite some time before the new building of the Children’s Hospital in Lucerne is ready for operation. So it is necessary to make the old children’s hospital look more attractive with simple means so that the children can feel as comfortable as possible. Because particularly children with cancer spend a lot of time in hospital.

We are waiting. As is so often the case. We are waiting for the next infusion and the current blood count. We are waiting for the clarifying talks with the specialists, for their prescriptions for new drugs, so that we can soon go home for a few days.

We try to make the time go by more quickly by playing games, talking, listening to music, reading stories. And sometimes we play “I spy”.

So a nurse’s idea to redecorate some rooms with various, large-scale look-and-find pictures was a really good one – Childhood Cancer Aid Central Switzerland was so taken with the idea that they were happy to cover the costs. More and more rooms at the hospital are being decorated with them.

Look-and-find pictures can cheer you up, distract you and sometimes help to reduce the fear of the unknown, pain or separation. They enable children (and adults) to invent new, imaginative and creative stories again and again, and thus immerse themselves in another world. A welcome change from everyday hospital life – for the whole family.
