Solidarity on ice

On 16 September, the ice hockey club HC Fribourg-Gottéron played a special match against HC Lugano. The match was dedicated to golden September – International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Dressed in gold shirts, the players sent a strong message of solidarity.

More than 70 young people affected by cancer and members of their respective families were invited to the game. Afterwards, the children had the opportunity to meet the players both on the ice and in the dressing rooms. A night to remember that conjured up shining stars in the eyes of the young participants. The gold shirts will be auctioned over the next few weeks via the club’s website in aid of three organisations, including Childhood Cancer Switzerland.

HC Fribourg-Gottéron’s commitment shows how sports clubs can help raise awareness of childhood cancer and mobilise funds for paediatric oncology. It was truly one of the magical evenings of this golden September, highlighting the importance of solidarity and support for children with cancer.
