Childhood Cancer Switzerland featured on Falò
On 16 September, the renowned Ticino television programme Falò broadcast a report on childhood cancer, with the participation of the umbrella organisation Childhood Cancer Switzerland.
The programme highlighted the challenges faced by families affected by childhood cancer during and after the illness. What many people don’t realise is that being cured does not necessarily mean being healthy. Most of the so-called “survivors” are confronted with the long-term effects of the disease and the intensive therapies. These late effects can be both medical and psychosocial in nature, sometimes occurring decades after the original illness and significantly reducing the quality of life of those affected.
The report illustrates how cancer in childhood and adolescence can shape the rest of a person’s life and how important specific services – such as those offered by Childhood Cancer Switzerland – are for those affected.
Falò is a weekly magazine programme on the Italian-language Swiss television channel RSI. It is one of the most important journalistic formats in Ticino and has been a fixture in public discourse for over twenty years. The programme provides in-depth analysis of current issues – whether at local, national or international level – and is considered a leading medium for well-founded social debate.
