Public Affairs

Children and adolescents with cancer, Survivors and their families need conditions that reflect their specific needs – from research and access to effective therapies and high-quality care to long-term follow-up care.

Childhood cancer is rare and presents particular challenges. As an umbrella organisation, Childhood Cancer Switzerland works to ensure that these challenges are adequately taken into account in health policy decisions. We bring the perspectives of those affected and our member organisations into political processes and maintain an ongoing dialogue with policymakers, public authorities, professional organisations and other relevant stakeholders.

Our goal: Sustainable conditions that ensure optimal care for children and adolescents with cancer and their families – during and after the disease.

Our priorities

Current Focus

The focus is on developing the national cancer strategy and integrating the specific needs of pediatric oncology into the National Cancer Plan 2025–2032, as well as on developments relating to health data and its use in research and care within the target vision for cancer registration.

Childhood Cancer Research

Research is essential to improve survival rates and quality of life. Due to the rarity of childhood cancer, pediatric oncology requires specific framework conditions that enable and promote research in the long term.

Access to Treatment

Childhood cancer comprises numerous rare diseases. Treatments are therefore often based on small studies or used outside approved indications, which can complicate regulatory approval and reimbursement. We advocate for rapid and equitable access to medically necessary treatments.

Pediatric Care

Treating childhood cancer requires specialised medical and psychosocial services. We advocate for the specific needs of pediatric oncology to be considered in the further development of the healthcare system.

Follow-up Care & Survivorship

Childhood cancer can have long-term physical, psychological or social consequences, even after treatment has ended. We therefore advocate for long-term, needs-based follow-up care.

Raising Awareness

Childhood Cancer Switzerland regularly launches awareness and prevention campaigns. These aim to raise the public’s awareness of childhood cancer and draw attention to the needs as well as challenges of those affected.
